We are coming to the end of June and about to celebration Canada Day (July 1), so we thought it would be a good opportunity to provide an update about the garden growth. We have had a few battles, so I feel like some of our plants are a little behind where they could have…

May Comparisons
In 2024, we are monitoring our monthly harvests and comparing them to 2023. Some accidental harvests, like garlic and green onions, have already taken place. Ground cherries and kale are producing well, while pak choi may not be a future harvest due to limited use. Rhubarb abundance is balanced with new recipes. Strawberry harvest is lighter, likely due to returning plants. Volunteer strawberries are thriving, indicating a promising June harvest.
Garden Planting ’24
The garden plans always change, as other projects and weather affect the planting schedule. Despite some challenges, the garden is mostly on track. Crops are thriving, with some adjustments still needed. The anticipation of a bountiful harvest and sharing the garden’s produce with others is high.

Getting Set
Well that time of year is upon us. The living room looks like a jungle, the yard looks chaotic and despite it all, the sun is shining (most of the time) and spring is upon us. We are hoping that this is the last year of chaos in the yard. To be fair, it gets…
Filling In
It has been about a month and a half since we put our first seeds into our new garden beds. Those garden beds were years in the making, requiring us to build rock walls to trellis our sloped yard, so we are SUPER excited to be at this point this year with planting our garden…
Old & New
This last week, Kurt and I have been on vacation, which during COVID and travel restrictions meant a staycation. Not a problem! We live in a beautiful area with lots to do outdoors, so we made varying plans that would depend on the weather. One plan we also made was to be spontaneous and NOT…
Spring Growth
It has been almost a month now since we started a few plants inside the house. They are happily growing big and tall and are on-track with being ready to go into the garden beds in mid-May. Over the next week or so, I will begin to put them outside on the deck for the…
