Gardening Days 2025 Kick-off

The time has finally come to get some plants into the ground. The temperatures are staying above freezing with the daytime temperatures steadily climbing to double digits daily. I love this time of year! I realize I haven’t updated the blog about some of the work we have done in the yard in the last…

July Comparisons

July felt like a weird month for growing this year. Everything feels behind, which some things definitely are, but just in general. There isn’t really a reason for it as far as we can tell. Plants are just slower to get going and producing this year. Talking with other gardeners it seems to be a…

June Comparisons

June is still an early month into our growing season, so this months comparisons are mostly about what we were harvesting to process. The numbers on some of the plants listed in this post could be much higher harvests if we harvested the entire plant, but most of what is ready this time of year…

June Garden Updates

We are coming to the end of June and about to celebration Canada Day (July 1), so we thought it would be a good opportunity to provide an update about the garden growth. We have had a few battles, so I feel like some of our plants are a little behind where they could have…

May Comparisons

In 2024, we are monitoring our monthly harvests and comparing them to 2023. Some accidental harvests, like garlic and green onions, have already taken place. Ground cherries and kale are producing well, while pak choi may not be a future harvest due to limited use. Rhubarb abundance is balanced with new recipes. Strawberry harvest is lighter, likely due to returning plants. Volunteer strawberries are thriving, indicating a promising June harvest.

Garden Planting ’24

The garden plans always change, as other projects and weather affect the planting schedule. Despite some challenges, the garden is mostly on track. Crops are thriving, with some adjustments still needed. The anticipation of a bountiful harvest and sharing the garden’s produce with others is high.

Edibles and Visions Updates

I assure you this post is about gardening and not drugs and hallucinating, despite the name. The edibles I refer to are the plants that will provide us with delicious food. The visions are our beautiful flowers that will be a vision to behold once planted. Lets start with what we have outside in the…

May Comparisons

I’m a little late with this post, but better late than never! May was a warm month this year. The average temperature was 7C warmer than last year, and the evenings stayed warmer throughout the month. There was more sun and less clouds. It was certainly noticeable in the garden. With the weather being so…

Nature’s Calling

Not that kind of “Nature’s calling”….I know you thought this would be about that, but it is not. It’s about the fact that Nature is calling us to get our butts in gear! The birds are swarming the trees, chirping merrily. There are more sounds of kids playing and outdoor activity. The dog is regularly…

Plant Planning 2023

I am sitting in my living room, looking at a beautiful sunrise and the fresh skiff of snow on the ground, thinking about my garden. We are still months away, but now is the time to start planning. Our first seeds will be planted next weekend, and earlier start than we have ever head, but…
